Newbie: Confused with Shares

Hi All

Hope you can help

I have a standard out of the box MyBook Live

It has the standard Public folders for Video, Music, Pictures (These folders have content in and can be browsed through the Samsung TV using the Twonky Media Server)

I create a folder - ‘Films’ - I create user ID’s for myself and a friend - the friend has read access - I have full access - this should allow the friend to read the files remotely … BUT, how do I get the TV to see the private folder as it doesn’t appear on the list… i’m guessing once I can see the folder I can enter a username and password

If i make it public then the friend would be able to delete files from the public folder?

Any general guidance would be appreciated

Doubtful that your TV supports Windows shares.  It probably only supports DLNA.

You’ll need to activate “Media Serving” for that share.

I have enabled ‘Video’ for that share and it still doesn’t appear in the TV Menu - Am I correct in the assumption that TV (DLNA enabled) will only pull content from a Public Share?

No, the TV doesn’t even know what a “Share” is.

The TV should display everything that the Media Server (the MBL running Twonky) tells it is there.

Log into the Twonky manager

http://[ip address of your mbl]:9000

and see if the files are listed there.
