You’re a genius ! completely solves the slow issue on my end!

congrats,

Rodolphe

can someone put a summary of how to resolve the dashboard slowness problem? Most of us are too late realize the problem AFTER upgrade the firmware…

Hi rodolgo, where is jakobjb’s post?

I bought My book live two days back and wanted to upgrade to the latest…I successfully upgraded but not without issues.

First thing I found out was that the firmware was very old. If I upgrade directly to latest it would fail because of some issues with Network update.

I followed the below method:

  1. Upgrade first to 124 version one and not 129 one

  2. Then upgrade to 129 version

  3. It will stop at 10 % and hang ( wait for 1 hour)

  4. Close the browser

  5. Open the browser and click on link to upgrade next to the red exclamatory mark. (Ignore the previous upgrade firmware display box)

  6. This time it will upgrade and install the new firmware.

Device is faster and better after this upgrade.

The one question everyone will ask is for the URLs to use in the browser to obtain the firmware files so a progressive upgrade can be performed.

Now I got a few firmware upgrade files but, alas, I assume (I’m sure someone from W.D. will be able to confirm?) I’m not allowed to provide links to my own copies, say, to a DropBox account because for one it’s not an official distribution and how can anyone know that such firmware files have not been infected or doctored.

Best place to get them is directly from W.D, so, where is the archive of firmware update files on W.D.'s site?

Well, that might not be entirely true. Here is my experience.

A month ago, I updated my MBL 1T, to 2.10.12-124. Soon after that the UI died. I checked with the community here, just to find out that, since I did not have ssh (or auto update) enabled I’m doomed. I had no time to spare, so i did not RMA the product.

Yestrday, the MBL would not show on the network and I could not connect to it or its media server at all, The LEDs on its ethernet port were as usual (one solid and the other blinking).

Without access to the UI to perform a safe reboot, I just disconnected and a 5 - 10 seconds later reconnected the MBL power adapter. The MBL booted (Blue LED followed by Red LED - it “lost” its green “touch” a long time ago) and shortly after, made itself available to the network.

At this point, I decided it would do no harm and tried the UI. Surprise, it WAS working. I checked for an update and got the network connection error. Went to WD’s site and found there was a new update (129). By the time the download was complete (and dinner was over), the UI had timed out and it was dead again.

After fiddling with the unplug/5 sec./plug procedure for a few times (performed on the the network cable too, just in case), the UI came back to life. I swiftly did a manual update (from within the UI), which went fine.

I did not encounter the slow UI issue, but there are some funny side effects.

According to the pics below, my MBL is for sure the oldest one on the planet (check the underlined dates).

But my MBL time/date info is correct and here is MBL’s message to prove it.

Hey WD, I’m ready to trade it for a new (“bigger”) one, and you can put in your museum :smileyvery-happy: .

So, before you RMA your new MBL for a refurbished one, due to the dead UI (with disabled ssh) issue, you might want to try the unplug/plug game of both the power and network cables. I know it doesn’t make sense but you never know…

Just spoke to tech support. After the tech assured me that resetting the device would not lose my data, it [delete] lost my data. [delete] Now I have to wait a day for level 2 support to call me back?

I have 2 Live TVs, a MybookLive, and 2 internal HDs. I’m going shopping to replace all of it. I’ll post a video of me destroying them all Office Space style when I’m done. I’m only a loyal customer if the company is loyal to me.

I can’t believe someone from Western Digital told you to reset the device. Any device reset to factory defaults will remove data and configuration. This is most basic. Maybe the person was not trained …

Got myself a 3TB SeaGate GoFlex Home, 2 NetGear NeoTVs and 2 SeaGate Barracudas all for less than $500 at BestBuy. I’ve cooled down some and decided not to destroy my WD stuff. I’ll be selling it on eBay (not the MBL obviously) and I expect my full investment in switching to decent vendors will be $250. That is waaaay less than the value of my data.

Goodbye WD.

update: i recieved a 3tb one that already had the latest update on it out of the box and after three attempts it works like a charm. can use all features

I’m sorry, I’m new to this “home network drive” kind thing.  Can someone help me step by step to make this new firmware 2.10.12-129 thing to work.

I bought the 2t My book Live yesterday hoping I could back up all my computer and files to this drive and get web access.  I followed the instruction and get to the point I have to register with Mionet.  Did that and everything work fast and normal as expected.  I noticed the update on the dassboard and go ahead with that.  Followed the instruction not to exit while updating but i wait it for 5 hours and nothing happended.  I exit and closed the browser and get back on the dashboard.  Took about 1-2 mins to load the browser and the message said all update is completed.  Now everything work super slow and frustrated.  I’ve been reading all the post and get very confused.  Could anyone help me step by step where to go to and fix this problems.  Thank you very much.

I would like some advice please. I have just taken delivery of a new WD mybooklive 2Tb. The current firmware is 02.02.02-020. Should I update it to the current 02.10.12-129 or wait until the next update which according to this thread should appear sometime this month? or maybe update sto some intermidate version in the meantime?

many thanks

Barry

The previous tip should work 100 % . Use the below only if you have experience using command line. I struggled and got tips from other contributes. Collating so that you do not suffer. WD is good product but customer service is pathetic. If still not successful go for manual method: * Download the upgrade file using my PC, then copy the firmware (apnc-021012-129-20120308.deb) to the NAS public directory   *login to my NAS drive : ssh root@mybooklive.local *Manually update it : updateFirmwareFromFile.sh /DataVolume/shares/Public/apnc-021012-129-20120308.deb   * wait and it will reboot   output should be: MyBookLive:~#  updateFirmwareFromFile.sh /DataVolume/shares/Public/apnc-021012-129-20120308.deb version_newfile=021012129 version_current=021009124 package_newfile=apnc master_package_name=apnc

many thanks for the advice, I have the 129 firmware but cant seem to find the one before, is there a link to it on wdc.com?

also I found a link where you can uodate the firmware from your PC using the UI after having downloaded the deb file first

http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5735

is this preferable?

thanks Barry

You can try but it will not work. I did not bookmark the old firmware link. Google and you will find it somewhere on the net. I Never tried the manual method . You can try and update here for the benefit of all.

Technaz, you said “you can try but it will not work” what were you referring to?

I’d replace “will stop” with “might stop”. Maybe it was blind luck, but a number of us have actually had no problems with the latest update. In any event, the critical step is to enable ssh before doing anything else. Lots of threads here on how to do that.
