Network Connection Issues since install of MyBook Live

We purchaced a MyBook Live TB recently to use as a media storage device.

Ever since it has been in our network, our laptops occassionally have problems connecting to our wireless router. You will click “Connect” and it instantly refuses. Only after switching off the router and restarting it, it seems to work again.

For the time being, the Drive has been disconnected from the router, but the problem still stands. I wonder if the drive may have done something to the router or something else.

If it helps the router is a NETGEAR WGR614 (v6)

Do you have the My Book Live connected to a switch? If so remove it and connect it directly to the router.

Here are a couple of basic troubleshooting steps to follow also.

I am having the exact same issue! I also have the same router, NETGEAR WGR614 (v7), with a MyBook Live 1TB connected to it.

On power up of the router, the wireless network works fine for an indefinite period of time. Sometimes minutes, or sometimes hours…then all of a sudden it kicks all wireless connections from the network and it’s impossible to log in again. The only way to get it all up and working again is to reboot the router…which is very annoying to say the least.

All firmware is up to date on all devices.

I’ve been wrestling with this problem ever since I bought the MyBook Live a couple of months ago…if someone could help it would be much appreciated…

Why?

Can anyone offer any help with this pls?

This sounds like it’s a wifi problem.  Have you done a site survey to see who’s using which wifi channel?

The problem may have existed before you got the mybook live, but the heavy data transfer from the mybooklive may have seriously exacerbated the issue.

If you have an android phone, there’s a super app called “WiFi Analyzer” that maps out spectrum for wireless G, which I’ve used several times to find unused channels.

Oh, I just Googled “WGR614 disconnect” and got a ton of hits dating back several years.  One user posted in 2008:

“I had the same problem. I dumbed-down the firmware to the next lowest and the problem stopped.”

which you can see here:

and which would suggest that this is a common problem with these routers, and that the problem is in firmware.

I would buy a new router.
