MyBookLive 3tb, unable to delete files and it keeps dropping connection to my ipad

Morning

My first thread on here.

I recently got the above drive from ym mate who used it on his mac, im using it on windows 7. Im trying to delete his pics off it that he does not want anymore. Its being a pain and wont delete them, also i can sometimes view the folders on my ipad but its very hit and miss. Plus the green light has been flashing for the past day after getting it from him.

The firmware is up to date.
