My book live internal link light has no power

I had this drive for several years and have been very happy with it unti just recently.  All of a sudden, the internal NIC card where the cat5 network cable is located stopped all light activity.  which means, no network connectivity and/or communication from my desktop to the network drive that is connected to my linksys router.  I’ve recycled the unit, i’ve replaced ethernet cable, i’ve switched network ports on the router but no prevail.  I have very important data that I would like to recover.  What are my options?   My unti is still under warranty but I am concerned with my data and would like to recover it.

Please help!

You could try this below as nfodizwrote in his [GUIDE] How to unbrick a totaly desd MBL.

This wil at least get you your data back so you can backup it.
If the systemboard is fried or the ethernet connector is broke i would the use the warenty to get it fixed.

STEP 2 (DATA BACKUP/RECOVERY)

If at this point you would like to pull your data off the MyBookLive for safe keeping, download Disk Internals Linux Reader for Windows
http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/ and install the program. Hook up the drive to your computer or a SATA dock and copy your data to another drive with enough space on your computer.

If DiskInternals Linux Reader will not recognize the partitions, it may be because you have a corrupt partition table.
Try using R-Linux http://www.r-tt.com/free_linux_recovery/Download.shtml
This program will also recover DELETED data from the drive as long as it hasn’t been overwritten by new data
User Daremo had success recovering data off of a MyBookLive with a bad partition table using this program
An example of a good partition table on a 1TB MyBookLive is as follows

MyBookLive:~# partedGNU Parted 2.2Using /dev/sdaWelcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands.(parted) pModel: ATA WDC WD10EARS-00M (scsi)Disk /dev/sda: 1000GBSector size (logical/physical): 512B/512BPartition Table: gptNumber  Start   End     Size    File system     Name     Flags 3      15.7MB  528MB   513MB   linux-swap(v1)  primary 1      528MB   2576MB  2048MB  ext3            primary  raid 2      2576MB  4624MB  2048MB  ext3            primary  raid 4      4624MB  1000GB  996GB   ext4            primary

Be aware! If you open the case, it will void your warranty. I would do as follow…

  • Contact WD before I open the case

  • Explain issue and need to recover files

  • See if they let you open the case, get files and still RMA.

If not, then do whatever you need.

And final word, yes, here I go again with it, sorry    :stuck_out_tongue:

backup backup backup, think about it, what if the hard drive had died?

so true. I support this 100%

btw. if you use plastic cards instead of a screwdriver to open the case you can open it without physically damaging it.
Only do it on the back (where the ethernet port is) where 4 clips are. If they are lose you can slide it open.
Inside there is no “void warrenty” prevention devices so if you do it clean you can get away with it.

(On the other hand, buy a new nas if WD doesn’t want you te let you save data. You can get your data back from old disk, use that disk in your pc afterwards as extra space (you can even backup your NAS on it  ) and copy the data to your new NAS.
