My Book live update to 02.42.02-012 : Core F/W and no twonky server functions

Recently i autotically updated my My Book Live to version 02.42.02-012 : Core F/W and no twonky functions are available, i did all the next actions

  1. I made a Quick and a Full factory restore ( Twice )

  2.  I follow this post:

You need to download the WD Media Server from

http://download.wdc.com/nas/WDMediaServerPatch.deb

Then upload it from the dashboard like you would a firmware file

Note: This will switch your media server from Twonky to the WD Media server

To switch back download this

http://download.wdc.com/nas/Twonky5MediaServerPatch.deb

And i get a Error 31101 message

  1. I gived a try to this post

I finally did get a working setup again

I used the downgrade.sh and the rootfs.img from apnc-021109-053-20120413.deb

Then used the update from file method in the wd gui with apnc-023205-046-20120910.deb

Then used the wd update from the web to go to 02.41.05 – 034

which did have a working twonky installed

I then was able to install WDMediaServerPatch.deb

and then back to Twonky5MediaServerPatch.deb

But error 31101 again pop out

Also i cant log to the http://MyBookIP:9000 page

Does anyone has a step by step procedure to get the twonky server working again after this firmware update, theres a big waste not be able to use the My Book Live as a media server.

Thanks in advance for the help

You did everything right except you shouldn’t install the WD DLNA server (WDMediaServerPatch.deb) if you just want to use Twonky.

  1. Downgrade back to 02.11.09-053 using the downgrade script (Contains a working Twonky)

  2. Now update to whatever firmware you want and you are done as Twonky is already the default server

  3. Done

The  WDMediaServerPatch.deb is only needed if you want to switch to WD’s Media Server

The Twonky5MediaServerPatch.deb is for if you updated to the WD Media Server and want to switch back to Twonky

Not sure why your getting errors but for clues you could SSH into the drive and browse to /CacheVolume and take a look at the update.log file

I’m in the process of testing this procedure now…

Step’s above confirmed working

Thanks for the assistance but when i followed your instructions i get

31101 invalid firmware package

I have this setting on the dashboard

Description:My Book Live Firmware

Version:MyBookLive 02.42.02-012 : Core F/W

Last Update:Mon 06 May 2013 06:44:21 PM PDT

Do you have the link where you downloaded the downgrade file ?

You appear to already have it according to your post (downgrade.sh)

“I finally did get a working setup again I used the downgrade.sh and the rootfs.img from apnc-021109-053-20120413.deb Then used the update from file method in the wd gui with apnc-023205-046-20120910.deb Then used the wd update from the web to go to 02.41.05 – 034 which did have a working twonky installed”

I upgraded to 02.42.02-012 from the dashboard

I installed the WD Media Server to reproduce your setup

I used the downgrade.sh or resetButtonAction script and put the 02.11.09-053 rootfs.img in my public folder and ran the script to downgrade back to 02.11.09-053

The media server went from the WD DLNA server back to Twonky when it booted back up

I then upgraded to 02.42.02-012 using the dashboard

That was all I did and I had Twonky back

Actually those comments are from the other post, i tryied the things writen in that post but i´m still with the 31101 invalid firmware package error, sorry for the missunderstanding.

Actually the only file i can update by file is this one

apnc-024202-012-20130401.deb

But i think is the latest version so im stuck in the same place error 31101 for all the downgrade packages

Thks for the help in advance

Sorry for the late reply… Write down all of the share names listed under shares in the dashboard

To downgrade back to 02.11.09-053 follow Guide 1 at this link

http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Book-Live/GUIDE-Restore-Downgrade-firmware-via-the-reset-button/m-p/481588/highlight/true#M15044

At step 2, download this firmware instead of the one in the guide

http://download.wdc.com/nas/apnc-021109-053-20120413.deb

Then continue on to step 3 but extract the rootfs.img file by browsing into the above firmware with 7-zip

The error says that I don’t have sufficient permission to go to the page.

I am trying to correct this same problem on my MY LIVE BOOK device.

Please could you PM me the guide as well, I’ve got the 02.42.02-012 updated MBL and I really want Twonky as my TV seems to struggle with WD’s server.

Thanks

Hi,

Please help!

I’ve spent my first week with my MyBookLive banging my head against my desk trying to install TwonkyMedia onto it. I’m not a programmer so phrases such as ‘copy the ffsroot.img to the root folder of the public shared folder’ makes no sense to me, and all the help which I find online seems tailored for people who know their way around Linux. Having said that, I’ve happily been using TwonkyMedia 6.0.31 on my PC to stream media wirelessly to my Panasonic Viera TV for three years now. I just can’t do the same using WD’s DLNA media server, even though the server shows up on my TV and shows me the files with their respective thumbnails (this is not a file formats issue, these files/videos do play on my TV when streamed from my PC).

I’ve tried manually installing the .deb file to switch between TwonkyMedia and WD’s DLNA Media Server, as instructed by WD here:

http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5735/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzgxNTI3MDcxL3NpZC9Td084THlDbA%3D%3D

However, all i get is the same error 31101 as everyone else. I’ve even tried to downgrade the firmware using earlier versions, but again, error 31101 - invalid firmware package.

Please can someone help? I don’t want to take the My Book Live back to the store because I’m confident that it’s only a matter of replacing the WD server with Twonky’s server.

My firmware version is 02.43.03-022 : Core F/W.

Many thanks in advance
