My Book Live 2 TB doesn't stay asleep

I have a MBL 2 TB that doesn’t want to stay asleep, the green light is on (not blinking) and the disk is spinning which concerns me because it feels like its life span will decrease. I have done all the resetting possible, but the problems persists.

iTunes, Twonky and remote access are all turned off. iTunes and Twonky because I don’t need them, and remote access because it just never stopped blinking (I left it alone for several days, having nothing but a handful of videos and no pictures in the shared folders). Turning off remote access stopped it from blinking.

I checked the logs and it’s obvious that it does in fact go to sleep, but wakes up. Below is an example from today, during which time no computer was turned on and able to access it.

It’s connected to an Airport Extreme Base Station (which is in bridge mode), having a static IP address set on the modem - which is (as far as I know) not pinging the drive to see whether it’s still connected. I’ve tried disconnecting the ethernet cable, but the only difference is that it’s flashing orange instead of steady green, even after having been that way for the night.

Firmware is the latest available (53).

I read in another thread that a large log-file might disturb the sleep mode, but having extracted the logs from the web UI, no log is even close to 1 MB, and the largest file is the mediacrawler database which is 35,6 MB. I don’t know how large they “should” be, but I guess it’s a far way from being excessive.

I think that’s about all the information that I could think of that would be relevant after having read all the threads I could find here on the forum.

Can anyone help me?

I too have my MBL connected to an airport extreme and don’t have any sleep issues. I don’t keep the MBL shares mounted either on my mac or win7 PCs. Any mounted shares will send keep-awake traffic to ensure the shares are still available. The MBL should fall asleep when no addressed traffic is received.

Thank you for your answer. Do you have the latest firmware?

I guess unmounting the drive wouldn’t make a difference for me since there is no difference in the log-file during times when all computers are switched off and when one or both computers are turned on.
