Multiple users on XP, only backsup one user

3 users on an XP box. UserA and UserB are “administrators” and UserC is “user”.

I found, when trying to restore files, that only the files from UserA are backed up and nothing from UserB and UserC. Files in c:\documents and settings.…UserA.… are backed up but not for UserB and UserC.

Help please?

ryeandcoke,

This is normal and expected, as WD SmartWare can not bypass user permissions. Because of system and user security levels within Microsoft Windows systems, you may have to log into each User account to proceed with automatic backups.

This is because network location configurations are permissions are not shared between Users.

I’m not sure that bypassing user perms is needed as users that are “Administrator” group members have access to all files on the system.

But let’s not quibble: Is there a solution to this? I would like to have all files (regardless of user ownership) backed up by the MyBookLive.

Disable passwords on all other accounts so they turn public, or run the backup from each account, or change the software for a more powerful one.

None of the passwords have accounts. I will see about ensuring that all the accounts run the backup.

“change the software for a more powerful one”… like what?

What would be more powerful software? I still haven’t solved this problem

If you ran an rsync server on MBL, perhaps you could use Delta Copy?

If with the admin account you can get into each user directory, and copy/move/rename a file, you should be able to back them all. It is all about permissions.

How about using the backup utility that comes with XP?
