Media streaming

Under Settings > Media Server, if I disable the media server by unchecking the checkbox, what exactly am I turning off? I am still able to access files from my Windows clients, iOS mobile devices (WD My Cloud), other apps that use CIFS/SMB to access files. What are some examples of the software/hardware that utilize the Media Server feature?

Thanks

I did read it, I was just (pleasantly) surprised that  turning off the Media Server checkbox on the MBL, did NOT seem to affect any of the clients/devices I am using.  I suppose that means they are using some of the other protocols (primarily CIFS/SMB) to access my files.
