How do you do Disk Defragmentation on the My Book Live?
The Disk Defragmenter in Windows Vista Home doesn't seem to see any of the mapped drives.
Then there are the unmapped shares.
Does the My Book Live have any facility for disk deframentation?
Thanks,
Dave

No, not at the user level.

Here is what I got from Western Digital Support:
The drive has absolutely no defragmentation software whatsoever, and there is no way to defrag a network drive. NTFS (Windows file system), and EXT3/XFS (Linux), are completely different in nature, and the network drive should not have any issues with fragmentation that would affect its performance. Google Search: Linux Windows defragmentation
This lead me to Why doesn't Linux need defragmenting?
This explains the difference in file systems between Windows and Linux.
That and some of the other articles indicate that you really don't need to defragtment the My Book Live.
Thanks,
Dave
