Replacing a disk on a RAID 1 MBLD 4 TB

Hi,

One of the drives on my 4 TB MBLD just failed. It’s an older Wd20earx model, which are hard to find, and are twice as expensive as the newer Wd20ezrx model.

My MBLD is set up as RAID 1. Would it be ok to replace the failed disk with the newer model, or do I have to keep using the older model? I understand that the newer model has a different physical layout. Would that make a difference?

Thanks!

Hello,

Take a look at this link:

How to replace the enclosure, replace the drives inside the enclosure, and get warranty service for a My Book Live Duo or My Book Thunderbolt Duo

There is a note that reads: “Be sure to get a drive that uses an identical model number to the drives included in your enclosure. This includes the information in the suffix of the model number (for example if the model number was WDM0D31NUM83R-0000 both the the WDM0D31NUM83R and 0000 numbers should be identical.)”
