I’ve just purchased mybook essential and am wondering whether WD has any suggested SW for system backups, I mean to keep an image of the system (in my case, Windows Vista). ACRONIS excepted (I purchased it a couple of years and it was catastrophic)
Hi, smartware is the only officially supported backup software for the my book, but I bet you can find several options using Google.

I’ve had good luck with Acronis True Image 2010. EaseUS and Paragon both have free stripped down backup programs, hoping you’ll buy the whole product. I partition my drive with the system and all software on one and data on the other. I make periodic images of OS and use GoodSync to backup data. That way it’s easy to restore OS without touching data. I make my image by booting from an acronis CD.
