I was wondering if anybody could help me, i have a westen digital one tyrebyte external hard drive, which was recently damaged, it got pulled of the table and the usb port broke off, is there any way to have it repaired or to retrieve the information.
It depends on which drive and whether it sustained physical damage. If the drive is Elements then it is possible to remove and hook up as an internal drive and recover data if drive isn’t damaged. If it is a drive with Smartware the data will be encrypted by the board where the USB port broke. Soldering it back on may work. Others have had luck swapping the board with a like drive or maching up to one on Ebay.
