Why is My Book not recognised by any computer when I plug it into my router?

I want to be able to access my external hard drive through our WIFI anywhere in the house.  When we plugged it into the USB port on the router we got ‘error’; but all our other external drives are recognised and we can see them on all pc’s throughout the house using WIFI … just not the WD ones.

nyasa,

This depends on your router as opposed to the hard disk drive itself. You will need to confirm with the manufacturing brand of your router the supported parameters related to storage media, including maximum supported size, file system, and partition table in case this is possible. If the device has an active password it will also need to be disabled.

If the disk drive itself is of a supported size and has already been properly formatted with encryption disabled, it would unfortunately mean your disk drive may not be compatible with your router.
