WD My Book Replacement Enclosure

Hello!

My WD My Book 3TB is no longer covered by warranty. The disk for itself works very well.

My concern is only about aesthetics.
The ABS black enclosure has been deteriorated by an adhesive removal solvent.

Where can I buy a Replacement Enclosure?

Hello,

WD does not sell the enclosures separately. Replacing the enclosure of a external drive is not supported.

I’ve been using a My Book Essential Edition 2.0 in order to hot swap a bunch of internal drives for years now. I simply cut a side of the enclosure off. Of course you have to power down the enclosure before swapping. But this has been working flawlessly for me for years (still is).

That being said, Why would WD not support this when it clearly works.
I too am looking to buy just the enclosures. My mom recently plugged in a laptop cord into hers (19v in a 12v device is never a good thing) and cooked the enclosure only, the drive still works, but I want it back in a new enclosure.

I know I can just buy a whole new unit but then I still have an extra internal drive.

It DOES work to swap from one enclosure to another so why does WD not sell enclosures?
