WD 500GB repair

Hello all

I have a broken WD 500GB external hard drive, which accidentally got dropped and I cannot get any files from it. Although computer is recognizeing it. I let an IT guy to check the drive and he said that I need to find exactly the same drive to get some components.

Hard drives exact model is  WD5000AAVS-00ZATB0, but I didn’t find any drives with that name with google’ing. Are there any other WD drives with similar  components, which could be used to repair the broken one?

I’m trying to find new circuit board for my model. Using data recovery software did not help.

Would it help if I find the same type of hard drive?

Replacing the circuit board on a hard drive is not a recommended method for recovering data or drive functions as this will void the warranty on the hard drive. For every hard drive model that Western Digital manufacturers, there are many firmware changes that would make it very difficult to find a circuit board with the same firmware of the defective drive. If you attempt to install a circuit board with a different firmware than the original, this may damage the hard drive further. If you need to recover the data on your drive, please contact one of our recommended  preferred data recovery partners.
