I have a new / unused MY Book 3TB external drive… I’ve read that it is a good idea to format any new drive with Windows 7 Disk Management as it checks the drive for errors as well as formats it. Is this true and should I perform this? Also… if I do this what happens to the Smartware/Backup?
Hello, since the hard drive is already pre-formatted, there is no need for you to do it, but if you want to verify if the My Book has any bad sectors you can run a test with DLG.
