Restoring an existing backup to a new user profle on a PC

Hello and Help!

I have a WD My Book Elite that is used to backup both my wife’s and my laptop. My wife’s laptop bit the dust. Fortunately I had a current backup available. Since she has not replaced the laptop yet, I wanted to create a new user profile on my laptop, and restore her files and settings to that new profile.

I created the new profile, however when I attemp to perform a restore of her information, it’s not available - only my backup information is available. According to my understanding, it appears that I need to uninstall the WD Smartware software, re-connect the drive and then it should give me the option to reinstall the Smartware software and the choice of which user I would like to restore from.

If this does work, do I lose any of the backups that I have created under my profile?

You can try to explore the backup folder manually, inside the my book there is a folder with the name smartware.swstor, inside that folder you will see all the backups, so you can copy it manually.
