MyBook Essential 2TB won't go idle or standby when connected to router

I’ve configured my MyBook Essential 2TB to go into standby after 10min, but when it’s plugged into my Netgear ADSL router it always stays active. The LED light flashes constantly and I can hear the disk spinning even when it’s not in use. Has anyone else had this problem? I’m using the MyBook as a network media drive for streaming to a WD TV Live, so it’s important that it goes into standby when not in use.

I had the same thing going on until I was told that these drives are not recommended to be used connected to a router and what I did is that I connected the drive to a USB port on my computer, connected my computer to the router and shared the USB drive on the network then I was able to play the files on the WD TV Live from the USB drive that was shared on the same network.
