My book Essential Edition cannot detect

My book Essential edition with model number WD5000C032  500GB cannot detect to my notebook.

For Operating System, I use Windows XP. But My book cannot detect my notebook. My notebook can turn on, and the light can function.

So Why my notebook cannot detect my notebook? Please, any idea? I really frustrating about that…Help me…
