My Book vs Extra Monitor

We recently attached a second monitor to our computers.  We are using Dell laptops for CPU’s. The drive (My Book WDBACW0030HBK-NESN) worked great until we attached a second monitor.  Now the drive will not be recognized by the computer.  The drive now makes a repetitive whirring and clicking noise.  This does not occur just on mine.  All 5 of us have the same My Book drives.  All drives stop functioning when a second monitor is added.  Monitor connected by standard VGA cable). I have tried the drive in different usb ports (in the monitor, direct to computer, hub, etc) with the same results. Has anyone heard of this occurring? Fix?

Hello and welcome to the WD community.

I haven’t experienced something like this, it is not normal. Does the same thing happen when you don’t have the monitor connected? also it would be good to try and connect the unit on a different computer.

Also make sure you connect the units power directly to a wall outlet that can help the drive get more power.
