My Book recognized by computer, but when I click on drive it says "this folder is empty"

When I connect My Book to my laptop, In My Computer it shows up as local disk (G) with 58.3 GB free of 596 GB. When I try to open the drive, it says “This folder is empty”. How can I get to my data?

Try this and eliminate one problem. Go into Disk Management find the drive and delete the driver, disconnect the drive and reboot system. After reboot hook drive backup. That will install a fresh driver.
