My Book Essesntials 2TB slow transfer rate

Hi,

I have this drive for about 18 - 24 months, and slowly added files to it, so never really noticed the transfer speed. (At the time i bought it my PC was only capable of USB 2.0).

I now need more space, so transfer everything to a new internal drive.

The external drive has a schedualed defragmentation, last one was 2 days ago.

When i transfer the files to the new drive, the speed is around 30MB/s.

I have another 3TB USB 3.0 drive from another vendor, and when transfering from that drive i get 100+ MB/s.

Ive tried to switch the USB cables, but it didnt had any effect.

Anyone has any ideas how to fix this?

Can you share the model number of your drive to verify if it is USB 2.0 or USB 3.0?

Thanks for the reply.

In ‘Device Manager’ its listed as WD My Book 1140 USB Device.

I remember buying USB 3 as i knew i will upgrade my PC at some point.

Also, the USB connection in the back of the drive is the new USB 3 plug, so i have no doubt.
