Needing a back up system I bought a 500 GB My Book Essential believing it to be Plug and Play. Sadly nothing could be further from the truth. The installation “hung” at 25 seconds to go. But then the screen popped up to set up security and register the device. I did that. Then I attempted a back up. Nothing happened. I rebooted my computer and now the My Book won’t run - AT ALL. Trying to start the software resulted in an error message. I’ve uninstalled the software and will try to reinstall it. But I don’t have a lot of faith that it will work. I’m a little disappointed in the product so far.
I don’t have the time or the interest to spend hours on this board or with Tech Support sorting out a product that should work “out of the box”. Come on WD!
