After reading the fourms and trying many things to fix my External drive,  I filed for a defective replacement, followed all the shipping requirements ( pretty detailed but I didn’t want any reason for it to be refused ) and sent it off.

WD quickly and without problems replaced my 1 TB unit and shipped a new one within a week. I was very pleased with the service and was actually surprised the process went so smoothly.
