Firmware update?

I am ‘contemplating’ a firmware update - and subseqent software update (MyBook Essential 1.5 TB).

The instructions say:

"# All AntiVirus software MUST be disabled.

All Anti-Spyware software MUST be disabled. "

I have ‘AVG Free Edition’ installed and find NO WAY of disabling mentioned functions - any hints?
