Drive detected o USB 3.0 ports, but not on USB 2.0

Hello everyone. I have this weird problem with my My Book 2 TB drive. I use it in a mixed environment of PCs with both Windows XP and Windows 7. It’s worked great on all computers I’ve used for the past 6 months I’ve had it, but now I get a “USB Device not recognized” message when I connect the drive to a USB 2.0 port on any of my 4 computers. What’s weird is the drive works fine when plugged into a USB 3.0 port.

Regardless of whether it’s plugged into a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, the drive spins up and does not make any weird noises, so I’m pretty sure it’s not the drive itself.I’m suspecting a bad cable, but any tips or leads from the community would be appreciated.

  • Always test your drive with different USB cables.

  • Always reinstall your USB drivers.
