so basically i just want three partitions on this 250gb so the three people that use this pc can have somewhere to put music. can I remove the software on this drive since im not using the backup
No you don’t need the software. I would not reply on any one drive as the only source for your data, internal or external regardless of the maker. External drives have a greater risk of problems for a variety of reasons. Not removing them properly, dropping, tipping over when stood up, no fan, possibility of USB port breaking off, grabbing the wrong power supply by mistake to name a few. Since it’s one PC I would consider installing a second internal drive and use an external for backups.
