1 TB MyBook Home Edition (Not under warranty) dead

My out-of-warranty MyBook 1 TB Home Edition drive has died and a data retrieval company guy suggested that before sending it in for data retrieval, I try removing the drive from the case and plugging it into a vacant bay in my Gateway FX530 PC. I can’t figure out how to open the case without breaking it. Any ideas? I can’t find any schematics that give me that info.

If this is a drive with Smartware don’t waste your time the data is hardware encrypted by a circuit board. If you get the drive recognized the data will be encrypted without going through that board. Maybe this will help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_2oMyoTBno

Thanks for the reply. I have never heard of Smartware so I’m hoping that means it doesn’t have it.

Is it possible that the drive is legacy enough not to have it? I bought it in 2010.
