Using external hard drive for storage (read, write, re-write)

I want to save an executable file and other select files to my WD hard drive. I only see commands to WD Smartware for automated backup. What am i missing? (MAC user)

Smartware only backsup certain file types. You’ll probably have to save the others manually or find different backup software.
