"Error erasing Time Maching back up disk 'My Book'"

Computer: MacBook

OS X: 10.6.8

So I’m trying to set up my My Book on my mac, and when I tell Time Machine to erase my My Book in order to make it compatible with mac, it comes up with this error message: error message.png

I’ve restarted my computer, ejected the My Book, and retried, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

What happens if you try to manually format the unit by means of Disk Utility? instructions are available in the following link:

Try the Disk Utility to format your drive.  Remember to turn off TMB first.
