Locking my passport when using as Time Machine Backup

Hi All,

I am using my WD My Passport as a Time Machine on my Macbook Pro.  I wanted to inquire if there was a way to create a password to unlock this external HD without installing SmartWare?

I want to basically ensure that every time it is plugged into my macbook, it asks me for a password to unlock it before it starts the Time Machine Backup on it.

You can install smartware, setup the password and then uninstall smartware.
