Why so expensive +

Just purchased a passport studio 1TB (with firewire) on tottenham court road at £169.95, because PC world cannot be bothered to stock it.

WHY

Its is only a change of board and a slightly heavier case, for this I pay double that of the USB3 (crapo) in plastic case.

On top of this, there is no compliance to thunderbolt.

A sad day for WD

I have also realised, the unit is not that good.

I have other drives that are firewire 400 that are faster with standard drives

This ia disgrace.

The performance of the drive is poor incomparision to other drives I have, both WD and custom, I am returning this back to the shop for refund.

After 20+ years of buying your products, I feel insulted that you cannot even provide the quality that you once were.

Sadly, if this is the future, you will lose a valuable customer

Second drive, has a differemt problem.

It gets red hot and is not starting to slow down because it is over heating.

what is wrong with WD, don’t the test these sodding machines.

If I recall correctly, Firewire devices are more expensive because Apple owns Firewire patents and licensing, so OEMs that use it must pay Apple for the connector, and in turn those costs are passed to people.

That’s why USB 3.0 devices tend to be cheaper than Firewire 800 devices even though USB 3.0 mops the floor with FW800 (4.8Gb/s [600MB/s] vs. 800Mb/s [100MB/s]).
