Whats Inside?

I see “MY Book” external drives that have 800 MB Firewire. I have 2 of them, yet Mac Fina Cut Pro complains that the drives are too slow.

I took one apart and found a IDE drive.

Why in the world would they put such a riduculously slow drive in a box with a 800 MB speed???

So my question is :

How do I find out what drives have SATA drives inside??

The performance of the drive will be determined by the interface type not the drive inside the enclosure.

For the best performance possible you can use USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt external drives.

For information of what kind of drive comes inside the WD external, please see the link bellow:

FW 800 isn’t 800 MegaBytes per second, it’s 800 Mbits or about 75 MBytes per second.  The ATA 133 hard drive can run as fast as 133 MBytes per second.  So, I guess according to specs the internal hard drive isn’t the problem.  If I know anything about Final Cut Pro, you should be running an internal drive as your scratch drive.  I doubt any external will work, unless it’s a thunderbolt drive.
