WD myBook Studio II FireWire 800 - Controller died, HDD runs, but not readable

Hallo,

the controller of my “WD myBook Studio II FireWire800 for Mac” died. No reaction any more.

But the HDD seams to be fine, and react normal on an SATA slot.

But I cant read any data from the HDD. The message is “need to be initiated”.

And the HDD dont mount. So I need to reformating it.

I think the data is still there, but the controller stored it maybe in a special way !?

Can you give me an advice how I can recover my data?

Is there a spezial “WD kind” of store my data on the HDD?

I used the HDD all the time at the same one Mac. And I try the access it on also this Mac now.

Thanks,

Jürgen

Hi there and welcome to the WD community.

You can try to use a data recovery software on the unit since it is being recognized by the computer in some way. Lets see if another user can share some tips and information  on this matter.
