I tried to reply to existing threads about this problem but the ‘reply’ button is greyed out.

My 1T WD hardrive has been working fine for 8 or 9 months (i use it as a back up so i only connect it once a month or so) why is it not working - is there some sort of engineered obsolescence. because 8-9 months is a bit rude.

someone said something about a bag and the freezer (what is an antistatic bag!)

anyway some useful suggestions would be great and less “it doesn’t happen to WD, we make good quality product” type stuff

You need to be a little bit more specific about what’s happening with your drive and what you have done as trouble shoot steps.

  • Are you able to feel your drive vibrating or spinning?

  • If you connect the drive to another computer are you able to see it?

  • Have you replace the USB cable?

  • Is your drive visible on Disk Utility?

  • If so, have you try to repair the drive?

  • Are you able to feel your drive vibrating or spinning? it starts to whrrr, then beeps and stops, then starts to whrr, then beeps and stops

  • If you connect the drive to another computer are you able to see it? tried it, no success

  • Have you replace the USB cable? tried that, no love

  • Is your drive visible on Disk Utility? Did not try this, will do

  • If so, have you try to repair the drive? Nope, I wouldn’t know where to start
