WD My Passport not detected on my Mac

Hello, I’ve gone through this forum quite a bit and there seems to be a few threads with similar problem but I can’t a solution to mine.

My passport is a 1TB model, model number: WD10TMVW-11ZSMS1

I’ve used it for quite a while now with no problems until recently. First sign of problems when sometimes it could mount but I couldn’t copy files from the passport. Files would not copy completely and just got cut off. And then it stopped being detected completely. List of symptoms below:

  • when plugged in, lights do come on but doesn’t blink.

  • I can **bleep** sounds.

  • disk utility cannot detect it.

  • changing USB cables doesn’t work

  • passport is formatted in mac os extended (journaled)

  • my system is osx 10.7.5

I have a lot of important files on it, so please a solution would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

WD’s technical support have emailed me personally suggesting that I use their WD Drive Utilities. I tried, doesn’t detect the drive. What’s more important to me is how to retrieve the data from the drive not the drive itself.
