WD My Book for Mac 2T-I need to move drive to different enclosure

Hello,

I have a WD My Book for Mac 2T which stopped spinning and mounting on my Macbook Pro.

I tried a new power supply and the drive now mounts but clicks and sounds like it’s having trouble spinning completely.

The Apple Disk Utitilty claims to drive is fine.

Diskwarrior says there is a hardware problem.

I can copy files but it is extremely slow. The files are large disk image backups averaging 250gb to 500gb. Estimated copy times read 6000 hours!

I never used the WD Backup software. I just copied files directly through the Mac os.

My question:

Can I remove the drive and use it in a different usb enclosure since I never initiated any password word encryption?

Hello and welcome to the WD Community.

I won’t recommend that since it will void the warranty of the unit. However, if the drive is out of warranty, you can try that.
