Pc to mac

Hello All!

Before I use to own a dell laptop and I backed that up onto my WD but now I own a macbook and have been using it for about a year and I wanted to back it up, when I connected the WD, it says it needs to reformat but by doing that it’ll delete all my previous files from before the WD from the dell. . .how do I backup my mac without it deleting my dell’s information?

All answers much appreciated & Thank you in advance!

A drive formatted for Windows is usually NTFS and is read only on a Mac.

If your Mac is running OS X, it can both read and write to your Win NTFS drive. But it is not setup to allow that function by default.

This article at CNet explains how to enable your Mac to use your former Windows backup disc: http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-manually-enable-ntfs-read-and-write-in-os-x/

If you are not comfortable making the systems file edits mentioned in the article, simply purchase the third-party drivers mentioned in the first paragraph of the same article.

Cheers.

Interesting there aren’t many Mac users here.
