I just bought the My Book external hard drive for mac (3tb). When I plug it into my computer it lights up and sutff but nothing shows up on my computer. I looked under utilities then disk utility and the hard drive isnt there. I have no idea what to do next. I’m really bad at figuring out computers… Did anyone else have this problem?

My computer is a Macbook Pro from 2011 with Mac OS X version 10.6.8.

Hello,

If the drive is not seen when you connect it to your computer please try:

1- Connecting the power adapter to the wall directly.

2- If the computer is a desktop, connect it on the back USB port and if possible try another USB cable. (directly to the computer, not through a hub).

  

3- Go to "Disk Utility” to verify if the drive shows up there.

If the drive shows up in"Disk Utility” but it is not seen on your desktop, then it means the partition is corrupted and you will have to format it in order to use it again. Please note that formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.
