My Book Thunderbolt Duo 6 TB file format if?

Hi to all.

Newbie here.

I just want to know whats the best file format if i have a system of:

Scenario;

Two windows client accessing an application in a mac server then backup stored in Mybook.

Why?

My boss wants to know if the file format from windows (NTFS) may do harm in mybook that is in HFS+J format.

and if ever we changed into ExFAT format, does the speed and reliability effect the system?

We are just concern because of a sudden freeze of our mac server while doing a backup. We are not sure though but

we already turn off the time machine just to be sure our server will not hang on us again. Again though not sure, we are thinking that the mybook has to do with the sudden freeze.

Please enlighten me.

Thanks

The format is given to the drive not the files.

Files done in Windows or Mac will be readable on any computer.

The file system only affects the ability to write files on any given OS.

For example, the NTFS drive can be read by Mac but not writable. As oppose to the HFS which can not be read on Windows.

You could consider getting a Network drive to satisfy your demand on multiple computers with no file system limitation.

You can also get third party apps to overcome the file system limitations.

To confirm if the drive is the cause of the sudden freezing, try running a First Aid test.
