My 2T mypassport refuses to mount

I have a 2t drive where It no longer mounts. I have tried both USB and FireWire connections. The format was journaled fs and it was used by a mountain lion osx installed MacBook Pro.

I has important files on it. That I would like to save. Prior to the non-mounting behaviour, it complained that the drive has some access problems on one of the 2 partitions and warned me to run a disk repair. But by the time I had moved all the files off the problem partition onto the other, the drive became unreadable. It is a mypassport drive, and about 4 years old

Does anyone have any advice?

Hello,

I recommend that you try some basic troubleshooting.

1- Disconnect the drive from the computer and restart the computer.

2- Please try connecting the drive to the back USB port of a desktop computer for testing purposes (directly to the PC, not through a USB hub).

3- Go to "Disk utility” to verify if the drive shows up there.

If the drive shows up in disk utility but it is not seen on your desktop, then it means the partition is corrupted and you will have to format it in order to use it again. Please note that formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.
