Locked my WD book studio and...forgot the password

Hi:

I have been using a WD Mybook Studio to back up my iMac and used a password to lock the external harddrive. I recently bought a new iMac and wanted to use the external drive with the new computer. For that I want to clean (format?) the external drive but cannot access it as I have forgotten the password. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I don’t believe you can recover the data on the drive without your password. That’s the warning given before you apply a password.

You can reformat the drive without needing a password. this will destroy all data on the drive.

Use the computer software to reformat the drive. On a Mac this is Disk Utility.

Now you can read/write to the disk, without needing a password.

This

Yes I did write that.

Did you intend adding something to my advice?

I don’t understand why you repeated my advice and added “This” ???

Nope, just pointing out your post nailed it on first attempt.

Thanks for that or should i say “This”  :)

More importantly, BlueandWhite, did it work for you?
