Getting rid of that Terrible software

Hello Everyone,

I have a simple question about a terribly-invasive software from WD.

I have 2 questions:

  1. Is the software that comes with the Hard Drives called Smartware?

    Can I simply press uninstall and get rid of this once and for all? 

  1. Will getting rid of this software impede my using my 2 hard drives soely for backup?

    I simply want to copy and paste folders and files from my computer to these backup storage devises.

I cannot stand having 50 copies of everything on my harddrive, and whenever I threw out the icon on my desktop, I now figure, that wasn’t the way to go about the task. Throwing the icon out takes the Garbage can forever toempy. First my MAC has to add up all of the files, then it throws them out. This impedes my using the computer until the garbage is thrown out. This can take loads of time!

Yes, it is called smartware, you don’t need to use it if you don’t want, and yes, you can copy and paste your files without it.
