(Critical) Energy consumption of My Passport?

So I switch from external hard drive (MyBook) to portable hard drive (MyPassport) a few years back, and have not been looking back.

The small compact size, the ease of transportartion, and the lack of need to plug it to an electricity source ig a blessing.

However some friends, and then me, realized that it completely ruined the battery lives of our laptops. A friend of mine had his laptop PC burn because of his portable hard drive that was drawing a lot on the battery at the same time he had an intensive usage. For my Macbook, but I didn’t realize then, and for my Macbook Air I realized that it ruined the battery life, and it’s a concern that has been apparently reported many to Apple customer service according the customer service.

So I’d like to know :  when are WD and other players going to have a low energy consumption footprint or at least communicate on the portable hard drive they sell to us ?

sounds like a good idea…

Try on the ideas forum and see how it goes…

BTW… I use mine with a laptop and it works like a charm
