Backing up xxxgb of xxxgb?

Searched and can't find the answer to this!

I've used 226gb of my Mac's 1tb internal HD.  When time machine is backing up it states "Backing up [amount currently backed up]gb of 995.43gb".

Why is it stating "of 995.43gb" when only 226bgb have been used?  I would assume it would show "Backing up xxxgb of 226gb"??

Is this just because it's a first back up or is there something untoward?

Thanks for reading Smiley Happy
