Back up needed before reformatting my hard drive

Hello 

I need to back up all of my data from my macbook pro hard drive and reformat it because of a malware virus. I currently have data stored on a my passport 1 tb drive from my I-Mac

Can I use the same passport to back up data from my laptop and then re-install data to my laptop after reformatting and not interfere with the data I have from my I-Mac.

I’m sure there won’t be an issue of space available on the passport

yes you can… if you are using Time Machine it will create an individual backup for each computer

Yes you can, that should not cause any problems.
