Back up external drive

I use Time Machine to back up my Mac to a WD 3TB “My Book Studio”.

I have a WD 1TB “My Book Essential” drive also connected to the Mac.

I would like to be able to back up the 1TB drive to the 3TB drive using WD Smart Ware. Is this possible?

Advise appreciated.

Yo say you are already  using Time Machine?

If so use it.

Then you can include your 1TB drive with whatever else you back up…

Open Time Machine Preferences.

Click on the Options button.

This opens a window showing items that are currently excluded from being backed up.

If your 1TB disk is mounted on your computer it will be listed.

Select it and delete it using the minus button.

Time Machine will now back it up to your 3TB disk with the rest of your computers data, provided, of course that your 1TB disk is mounted.

No, not using smartware as it won’t detect another wd drive as the source on a Mac.

Raymond,

Did you try what I sugested?

I myself have not, but if you look deeper in the community then you’ll tell there’s a lot of people that have tried and failed. Smartware for mac doesn’t even let you select any other volume but the main mac HHD last time i checked.

You can do it, but not with smartware. You’ll need snother program.

Hi Al
