Have a 2TB MyBook Essential chock full of videos, raw photo files, important documents. Plugged in the drive one day and bam, partition gone, replaced with “MyBook” and “EFI” partitions, all empty.
I eventually tried a piece of software called Yodot , which was able to find the name of my lost partition, “MacDrive3”, as well as the starting sector for the partition. It recovered about 50% of the folder structures and files. I noticed however, that all folders created in 2014 could not be recovered completely. Instead, they were dumped into a folder called JPGs and had their filenames scrambled.
I called WD and they are going to try setting up data recovery for me. I’m really hoping they can recover my folder structures as there are over 16000 files that I’ve lost.
