Able to Encrypt Time Machine Backup?

When trying to encrypt a Time Machine backup using a competitor’s RAID product via the following process, it doesn’t work:

Select the disk and click the “Encrypt Backups” box, then “Use Disk” box. I then am prompted to enter a PW. After I do this and click “Encrypt Disk”, I get an error that reads: “There was an error preparing the Time Machine backup disk “name”. A partition, not a whole disk, is required for this operation”.

Would this same error occur with your WD 4TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo Dual-Drive Storage System, or would I be successful with your product?

Thank you!

Hello,

It’s hard to tell, since that error is related to time machine.

As a recommendation, when you try to encrypt the backup, try partitioning the drive before you do that to just encrypt the partition with the backup.
